Portrait of Samuel Meeker by Gilbert Stuart
c. 1803, Philadelphia.
This portrait has never left family hands. That it ended up in mine, is something of a miracle!
He has a normal nose. I have noted that an inordinate number of GS sitters had large, mostly ugly noses.
As Ms Evans described, "Hollywood good looks!"

there is a denman family history. according to that history, Samuel Denman and his wife, Ann Maria Hampton had a son Samuel who was born in Philadelphia on March 10, 1806 and died at Lawrence, Kansas on July 5, 1871. He was married in 1826 to Susan Boyle at Lancaster, Ohio. Samuel, the senior, was the child of Mathias Denman and Phebe Denman of Springfield, New Jersey. His sister, Phebe, married Oliver Wade of New Jersey.
